.Bachelor of Engineering Aeronautical/Mechanical/Automotive (BEngg.AE) - 3 years Degree Program

UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON

To provide graduates with a broad engineering educationalbase by emphasizing on core the mechanical subjects on which a career can bebuilt in industry, research, education or the service sector. Core subjectsinclude thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics, control, manufacturing,electronics, electrical machines, mechanics, materials, computing and design.

The subjects are developed through a number of assignmentsand projects to prepare students for the needs of industry. Importance isplaced on the integration of analytical tools with application skills throughdesign exercises, case studies, projects and visiting lectures. The coursedevelops the students’ skills to enabling them to use the latest technologies,including computer-based tools for design, modeling and simulation withflexibility of approach.

The final year includes an in-depth treatment of subjects indifferent fields of mechanical, aeronautical and automotive engineeringenabling the development of a realistic appreciation, understanding andapplication of analytical tools as applied to real engineering problems. Thefollowing subjects differentiate between the three courses, partly in thesecond year but more so in the final year:
  • MechanicalEngineering – design, manufacturing, materials, CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping;
  • AeronauticalEngineering – fluid dynamics, aeronautical modeling, aircraft testing, usingfacilities at Shoreham Airport/ Northbrook College and wind tunnels and flightsimulators;
  • AutomotiveEngineering – engine technology, thermodynamics, using internal combustionengines research facilities

CareerOpportunities
Graduates may find a range of occupations in MechanicalEngineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Automotive Engineering. Careers arealso possible in Computer Aided Engineering and Modeling, Aircraft andAutomotive Systems, Engineering Design and Management, Fluid Dynamics, Controland Simulation.

    Program LearningOutcomes
Upon successful completion of the courses graduates will beable to:
  • Understand and applyappropriate mathematical methods to model and analyse engineering problems
